In our astronomy forum a member posted a note on quitting smoking (4 days). I posted my two cents:
Mark Twain said, “Quitting is easy. I’ve done it thousands of times”. I’ve “quit” for varying periods of time in the past, but am currently approaching 4 years. The difference this time is that I hope I’ll never again assume there is a point after which I’m “home free”.
Every day is definitely easier than the last, and the health rewards definitely become more noticeable with time too. “Milestone” points seem to be 3 days, 6 days, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months. After that, the only real obstacle I faced was an increasingly casual attitude.
Corny or not, “one day at a time” is the operative watchword in this biz. It works for me. So far.

Later I returned to that forum thread and found it had been hijacked. It was converted to a smoker bashing thread.
