Measure dry ingredients,
and mix and sift flour and baking powder together. Cream the
butter, then add sugar gradually and continue beating. Add
the milk and the flour and baking powder mixture alternately.
Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites. Add the flavoring.
Bake in shallow pans. When done, put between the layers White
Mountain Cream covered with thin slices of banana, and frost
the top. This should be eaten the day it is made.
WHITE MOUNTAIN CREAM
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup cold water
white of 1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla or 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
